We had the honour of having DTM Lynne Cantor, the UK & Ireland Evaluation Champion in 2012. She presented an interactive evaluation workshop in which she shared nuggets on how we can become effective evaluators.

She reminded us of the following basic things that the evaluator needs to do;
  • Reading the project and the objectives of the speaker's speech.
  • Speaking to the speaker for anything in particular they want you to look out for.
  • To be ready with the structure for your evaluation feedback. This would normally include sections where you will record your feedback about the content, delivery and language of the speech.
  • Structuring your evaluation feedback in the format of the Opening, Commendations, Recommendations, Commendations, summary and close
  • To complete the evaluation form for the project from any pathway that the speaker is working on.

Lynne explained the details of the Ins and outs of an effective evaluator. She engaged the members by asking questions and providing evaluation exercises throughout the workshop.

We had one speaker for the evening, Florence Nakkozi with a speech title "Use crisis to your advantage".

As a way of testing the knowledge we had acquired from the workshop, Lynne asked 2 members to volunteer and evaluate the speech plus 2 other members to provide feedback to the evaluators.

The workshop was comprehensive and productive.

Big thank you to Lynne!
