knowing me knowing you!

Picture
Knowing Me Knowing You is a new meeting segment (unique to Croydon Communicators!) that was added during the pandemic, a time where members were unable to meet in person and therefore missing out on the networking, numerous informal chats, and social interaction with each other.

The purpose of the segment is simply to get to know our club members better in a fun way while we continue meeting online, with the added bonus of two more speaking roles on the agenda that allow members to practice interviewing skills!

One of the members acts as the Interviewer and the other as the Guest or Interviewee much like a talk show. Both role players having been drawn at random at the previous meeting .

The Interviewer should open with a quick introduction to the audience e.g. "My name is Aseem, immediate past president at Croydon Communicators, and this evening I'm joined by ..."

The interviewer and interviewee can agree before the meeting any specific questions or subjects they would like to talk about, or they can choose to improvise on the night.

Suggestions of things to talk about:

  • Toastmasters journey: how did you find out about it and the club, why you joined etc.
  • Favourite or memorable speeches you have delivered or seen
  • Hobbies / hidden talents
  • Role models / heroes
  • Favourite books / movies / music / food / drink/ holiday destinations
  • Professional / educational background
  • Advice / tips for members
  • Speech contests
  • Leadership roles
  • Dreams / goals

The interviewer may even choose to throw in a couple of questions from the audience at the end if there is time. Don't forget to have fun with it!
Examples of the segment and roles being performed at previous club meetings are archived on YouTube, and a link to the recordings are available to members.
